Last month the Furniture First Board of Directors approved Tyner Furniture of Ann Arbor, Michigan as a new member of the cooperative. With a long-established local history, Tyner Furniture operates the largest furniture showroom in Washtenaw County with a 68,000 square foot showroom.
Like most Furniture First Members, Tyner Furniture is an independent family-owned retail store. Originally established in 1944 when Irving Tyner took over another retailer and changed the name, Tyner Furniture is currently operated by Eric Miller, grandson of Eric Tyner the third generation of the family in the business.
Tyner Furniture moved to their current location in the early 1990s. Strategic decisions along the way have helped the operation maintain their community standing as Pittsfield Township implemented plans for mixed-use development around their store’s location. Tyner’s emphasis on quality, customer service and custom orders helped the retailer to bounce back from the downturn with a solid footing.
